Recently, we dropped a collection that was styled and modeled by our amazing lead photographer, Ashley “AP”. We got the opportunity to sit down with AP and discuss all the fun details. Check out what her day to day looks like, her inspirations, and favorite collection pieces below!
What does a typical day look like as a lead photographer?
I'm going to start with Wednesdays because that's when we shoot! We are typically on location, so I arrive and take a little tour to get an idea of the places that will look good, have good lighting, and translate well for our website. During the week, we started the culling process of our memory card. This is where we pick out our favorite images! Once images are picked, I create a preset and send it out to my photographers. Now, we can all start the editing process and get them plugged in online so that customers can shop our new arrivals!
Do you think that photographing models over the years influenced the way that you modeled for your shoot?
Oh 100%! Every time I stepped up on the platform I was thinking what would Ava do or what would Dylan do. I would even find myself doing a pose and thinking, this is a Dylan pose or Ava pose. It's so foreign to me to be on the other side of the camera but I think seeing and working with them every single week for six plus years, poses just came to me!
How would you describe your style?
I would describe my style a little bit edgy or street style-esque! I do like to pair different things together. I like to play with different patterns, colors and just have fun with my wardrobe! I get inspiration from my favorite influencers and I look at what some of my favorite celebrities are wearing! I drew from that a lot while styling my shoot!
Is there anyone specifically that inspires your photography style?
YES, this is probably the easiest question I will get asked in this interview! Her name is Tessa and she is my girl. I would say she's like my secret weapon but I think everyone knows about her. She has the best app that I use for all my personal photos as well. She and her husband are so incredibly creative and I take a lot from them. It helps me with creative angles, poses for the girls, and it also helps with finding editing styles!
Did you have a favorite item from your shoot?
If I have to choose, I would say the Parleigh Denim Mini Dress! What was cool about getting to do this is that I got to pick out the pieces, style, steam, and model them! I used that dress as the basis of my collection. I mixed a lot of leather, denim, and sequins! I was inspired by one of my favorite influencers who paired a denim dress with rhinestone shoes and that kind of set the whole mood for my shoot!
